Brooklyn-based singer Lisa Lisa became a household name in the early '80s, producing four consecutive successful albums with the Full Force production group. In 1985, shortly after self-releasing their first single, "I Wonder if I Take You Home," Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam (Mike Hughes and Alex Mosley) were signed to Columbia Records. Their first full-length album, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force, went platinum thanks to the single "All Cried Out." In 1987 the album "Spanish Fly" was released, making it their second platinum album. Their other albums were "Straight to the Sky" (1989) and "Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen" (1991).

After calling it quits with Cult Jam in 1992, Lisa Lisa went out on her own, releasing 1993's "LL 77", a collection of dance tracks that failed to jumpstart her solo career.
